Good evening,
Celebrations and confessions!
I'm mostly a CW op, but I decided that after owning my K2 for several
years, that I'd like to try SSB for a change of venue. I built the
SSB module years ago, installed it, but only used it once to test the
thing.
Well, to make a long story short, after trying all sorts of mics and
SSB settings, going over the board with a fine-toothed comb, talking
to Gary Surrency etc. etc., I kept getting terrible signal reports.
Four days ago, I had enough! I took out the module, my soldering
iron and my headset magnifyer with this attitude: "if it doesn't
work this time, I'm tossing it and buying a new one." . . . . . . .
I don't know how I missed it earlier, but I had wound T2 with three
too many link turns. (Confession time.) I had wound it identically
the same as T1. It's amazing what an extra three turns does to the
impedance match and drive level of the product detector. Should've
known better.
And now, guess what, it works. Audio reports are good and I'm having
fun with my K2 again.
Anybody need a stack of mics. Hi.

P.S. This is the ONLY glitch I've had with my K2. Everything else
has been absolutely perfect.
