[Elecraft] Keeping the Hakko 808 Clean

Hi

I was the one that mentioned the steel wool because the Hakko 706 that I
have uses steel wool to catch the solder. I don't have a Hakko 808 and Tom
Hammond emailed me that the 808 uses a different solder catching
arrangement. I'm not sure the steel wool will work with the 808

The 706 has a glass vial that a tuft of stainless steel wool is inserted
into to catch the solder. Behind the wool is a felt filter to catch the
fumes so they don't get into the pump. There is also another felt filter on
the pump. The 706 is not made any more and it is over 15 years old, so the
newer units may be different. The 706 is similar to the current model 470

Sometimes I have solder stick up near the front of the solder chamber near
the solder tube that goes through the heater. I have found that using my
soldering iron to melt the solder and let it run out into the trash is the
best way to remove this solder. Perhaps this technique would work to remove
the excess solder on the metal disk of the 808
