[Elecraft] Speaker grills and openings

Hi Tim:
I put 2 K2 speakers mounted in a EC-2 with a ClearSpeech DSP and a phone
patch. For the speaker openings, I used a 2" Gleenlee chassis punch
(leftover from construction days), one on either side of the cabinet
front panel. The punch makes an "almost perfect" round cutout. For the
grills, I cut out a leftover speaker grill from an aftermarket car
speaker (about 5" diameter) and sandwiched them between the panel and
speaker. It was perforated with small round holes and made out of
metal. I masked off ALL but 2 square areas around the speakers, about
2.5" square and painted them black (to match the grills). The two black
squares offset the one black area of the K2. Easiest way I could figure
out how to finish it off without the matching K2 grey paint.
Any machine shop or electrical contractor (they use them for electrical
panel mods) will be able to do the chassis punch cutouts (minimal cost I
imagine); the speaker grill can be picked up (probably for free) from
the "junk bin" any shop that installs aftermarket car stereos.
Makes a very nice accessory that improves audio quality and listening
pleasure from the K2 (in my opinion).
Hope this helps ...
