[Elecraft] Internal Battery Charging Question

Hi all,
I have a question regarding my K2's internal battery, the KBT2 option.
I am not having any problems with it but just wanted to run a few of the
readings past the group to see if I am in line with everyone else.
I am using a regulated power supply which I picked up from Radio Shack
about ten years ago. The front panel says it is a 12 volt supply (I think I
recall it being a 3 amp supply).
When I put a DMM on the terminals of the power supply (with no load) I get
a reading of 14.7 volts.
When I connect the power supply to the K2 and press display on the K2, the
voltage on the K2 display shows 14.0 volts with 280 ma of current (in
receive).
When I remove the power supply and press display, the K2 shows 13.1 volts
(the current is slightly higher in the 280 to 300 ma range).
I guess I am asking is that I shouldn't expect to get more than 13.1
volts out of the battery (right?), but is the 14.0 (or 14.7) volts too high
and might I cause damage to the battery?
(Also why is R/S calling this a 12 volt supply?)
Thanks in advance for you comments and observations
