I asked the question if the internally generated signal
on or about 99.7 (refer to page 41 left column middle of
page) was accurate using it for calibration-- if I calibrate
with 99.7 W1AW code practice is placed on the dial at 14.0490
instead of 14.04750 where it should be. Also it was off
compared to a Kenwood TS-850 (reading 99.3 on the K1
in the CAL procedure).
The answer on May 10, 2002, from Gary AB7MY
was this:
" This signal is only as accurate as the 4.0Mhz MCU
clock crystal on the front panel PCB, which is not adjust-
able as it is in the K2. The CAL adjustment also affects
the LCD readout accuracy of this signal."
When doing a Calibration, Gary uses an external counter
or accurate reading rig.
I was not able to use 99.7 as a calibration reference.
After final Calibration with W1AW on 14.04750 a notation
of 99.3 was made in the manual for a quick calibration
check in the future. The number you get will not be
exactly the same. Also the accuracy of W1AW code
practice is very close-- enough for the K1 and it's dial
accuracy.
