Hi ,Dave:
Builder's alert 19 warns that the capacitor change made in Builder's
alert 17 (and which, according to the e-mail, is also a part of K2's S/N
3000 and up) can cause errors in the current measurement of 25% or more
at levels above 2 amps. That's a pretty serious error. I'd take the cap
out. While I don't use the current display on the K2 much, I presume
that error could trigger false "over current" readings... or fail to
note an over current when one actually occurred!
Fortunately, Builder's alert 17 was still sitting on my "to do" list for
the next time I decided to open up the K2 <G>.
Recently a fellow "Elecraft" buddy observed that soon we will be making
modifications to the modifications. I told him that he wasn't keeping up
with things. We are already!

My K2 serial 1892, has always shown erratic current measurement when
running from my main shack power supply. While not annoying enough to
mention on the reflector, I was pleased to see Builder Alert #17 fixed
it by the addition of a 0.1 uF capacitor (C44) across R7 on the control
board. Just increasing C42 to 0.1 uF doesn't fix the erratic reading for
me, adding C44 was a complete fix.
I noticed today that Builder alert #19 recommends not fitting C44... any
thoughts on which way to go... do I suffer with an erratic current
measurement or leave C44 in place??
