[Elecraft] K2: problems with 30 and 20m filter

IF the rig has NEVER operated, you may have a simple problem with the
adjustable trimmer caps not being seated. As the trimmer caps come from
the factory, the rotor part often does NOT make good electrical contact.
Put the adjustment tool in the rotor and spin it around and around
several times, then try it again.

That is not a sign of a defective trimmer, only that it hasn't been
"seated" by using it yet. If that fixes it, you won't have any further
trouble (at least I have not 3 years after "seating" mine).

As for the "builder" of that K2, may his soldering iron lift every trace
and fry every diode and may his antenna fall down in every snowstorm.

Hi Guys,
I am restoring a K2 of a friend; he has bought it from a Californian
Ham that sold it as built and perfectly working, but, when the rig
arrived in Italy, we discovered that it was not working and it never
worked, because there were some errors... Now I already solved some
issues but I need some help for the 30 and 20m filter....the 30m (and
20m) filter is impossible to align. I unsoldered and checked L8, L9,
C19, C20, C22, C24 and C25 and all these components are fine with
correct values, I succesfully checked with an ohmmeter that the relays
K3 and K4 are correctly switched but I have no 30m signal if I measure
it on cathode of D6. If I place the 10x probe on L2-C9 junction I have
some signal only if the L9 slug is fully inserted and I can peak it only
if I add a 15pF capacitor between this junction and ground. On the othe
side of C22 I have no signal at all, it seems like if this point were
connected to ground but it is not so... Someone has some suggestion for
me? Thanks in advance... Ciao and 73 Guido, ik2bcp / ab9dg K1 #1096
