[Elecraft] Trouble with bail and feet - K@

I am having a lot of trouble installing the folding bail and rubber feet
on the bottom cover of my K2.  The ends of the bail are significantly
wider than the spacing between the feet.  Following the instructions, I
installed one foot, inserted the end of the bail into it, inserted the
other end of the bail into the second foot and attempted to install it.
The foot would not come near the mounting holes.  I then removed one
screw from the first foot, attached the second foot with only one screw
and attempted to insert the bail by rotating the feet a bit to gain a
little more spacing.  That didn't work.  I tried to bend the bail.  It
is too strong and that didn't work either.

 

I'm stuck.  Obviously I'm not doing something right or there is a trick
to this I haven't caught onto yet.  I sure would appreciate any
suggestions.  Otherwise my K2 will have no bail and I think it's always
a good idea to have bail available just in case!
