Okay you have everybody who said you need to mark this, absolutely.

Now that the socket is in place I would destroy the old marking first so
that you cannot tell which way is correct by looking at the socket.  Use
care not to damage the board.  If you have an old solder tip that you don't
care about, just melt the spot on both ends.  You could also use an XACTO or
Dremel, whatever makes sense to you.

Then use some method to mark the correct way around.  This will ensure that
somebody does not ignore your new mark in the future and cause enough
confusion that the last resort of looking on the back for pin 1 will win
out.
