Hi All

Tim has a question about taking audio out during new installation and
George comments:

To summarize, and this should probably be the entire content of the wordy
posting (!), I use the PRO and PRO2 ACC1 receive audio output because (1)
it is there and easy to connect to, Line level, etc. and (2) the output
signal is cleaner in the sense of wider frequency response, less noise and
wider dynamic range without clipping/distorting. I use the K2 Speaker output
directly because (1) it is there and easy to connect to and at a signal
level and impedance level that will "work" into a Line input even though the
specs don't exactly match up; and (2) the K2 audio amp is quite clean, quiet
and of adequate dynamic range, so there is no real need to avoid using it;
its gain can be controlled such that its output level does not overdrive
external equipment.

I suspect that once again I have created more questions than I have answered

My comment is that I think I understand one reason Tim may want to take the
audio out of the K2 at some point. In my case I had thought much the same
thing as Tim, not to amplify it but to use it as input much like an ACC
option
on some rigs. To use it for input to the sound card for use for digital
modes
like PSK31, RTTY. Yes we can take the output from the rear speaker jack and
input it into the sound card, but doesn't that cut the sound from being
heard.
Another option is the plug into the head phone jack, again cuts out the
audio
and you can't hear it. I have tried to use a Kamtronics digital interface
before
and I had much the same problem, how to hear the signal you are trying to
tune to. In my recently obtained HF Digital Communications book from
the ARRL they have an option of using an adapter to allow two plugs to
be used on the speaker jack. This now and always has seem to me to be
a cludge. I hope that is spelled right, if it is a word. Seems like one we
always
used in AT&T.
Anyway that is my reason for wanting a constant signal, (line level) output,
to
use for either input to a sound card or a digital TU, actually both line
out/
line in fordigital work. Or have I over looked something in my K2, I admit
I have't had it to long.

My new Ten Tec Argo V has an acc out put jack for audio and tx, my ft817
has two of them, and for the life of me I can't figure out why they needed
two,
as it is I now need two serial ports to do rig control, and digital signal
work.

Oh well, someone please tell me I am wrong.
