I cannot provide any qualified comment on the other questions asked, but I
believe the above occurs when the MCU believes that the potentiometers have
been turned (changed value).  I have not noticed this and would not consider
it normal; others will agree or not I am sure.

An erroneous indication like this could come from a number of different
sources.  Pay attention to see if this occurs only when the rig is bumped.
If only when bumped then the knobs could be installed against the front
panel too tight or loose or something.  This symptom could certainly be
caused by an unsoldered connection.  A cold joint or a crack in a trace
could also be the cause.

There is not much between the MCU and these pots so check the schematic and
follow the trail to ensure that all connections have been completed well.
Somebody recently posted that reheating a solder joint that looked good
fixed a problem so you might even try that.
