[Elecraft] Low Volume

Just a comment on noise and volume level, I use a old Heath HS1661 speaker
with my K2, it is much more sensitive (though the speaker with the K2 and my
separate KPA100/KAT100 works great, more then adequate volume).
Unfortunately I do not have a way to measure sound levels. However to give
an example, of speaker differences. I performed the volume control mod and
with the volume control turned all the way down, no antenna connected I can
hear the 4 MHz oscillator on the Heath speaker, with the K2 tuned to 4 MHz.
I cannot hear it with the K2 speaker or in the speaker in the KPA100. What
does this prove, well analytically nothing, however subjectively my Heath
speaker is cable of putting out more volume, big deal. Likewise you can
experiment with computer speakers both using them amplified and unamplified
and draw all sorts of conclusions. In fact if you really want to fill a
room run the K2 into some amplified computer speakers. I found most of them
run on 9V wall warts, but also run fine on the standard 13.8V used to run
the K2 (do this at your own risk to your computer speakers).
