I have not heard anyone lately talking about John Grebenkemper's KSB2
performance enhancements. John Grebenkemper, KI6WX, came up with some
excellent mods to the KSB2. I have incorporated all of his mods in my K2 and
they really work great. I changed out the capacitors on the KSB2 board and
replaced them with the ones for a 2.2 Khz bandpass and have received
excellent audio reports. This mod has not deteriorated the unwanted sideband
nor has it affected carrier suppression. The KSB2 Increased Gain
Modification is also a great mod which increases audio gain by adding a
2N2222 transistor. Anyone interested should look at his 12 pages of mods
entitled Improving the Performance of the KSB2. Because the KSB2 board is so
small and compact it would be advisable to have a good solder sucker to
remove components so the board won't be damaged. His mods can be found by
going to the Elecraft home page and click on Builders Resources. On the
builders resources page go down the page and click on Mods: official (and
Un-official). This will take you to An Excellent Index of Customer Mods by
Sverre, LA3ZA. Under Unofficial Guide to Elecraft K2 Modifications, click on
#3. General Modifications applicable to any K2. Go down the left column and
click on Increased RFgain and Optimal Reduced Intermodulation. this will
bring up John's 12 pages (edited by Tom, N0SS) on Adobe Acrobat Reader.
