Problem Solved, however som egg on my face remains<g>.

The operative word here was "ground", not "loop". You need one.

The outlet up here isn't grounded. My Server's case is floating about 60 vac
to ground. A drop cord from the UPS to a grounded outlet fixed all (Except I
still need to pull a 3-conductor romex through the basement). No twists,
chokes, baluns or opto-isolators needed.

The weather station is off my laptop (so I can actually use the laptop in
the shack) and plugged into my workstation (where it belongs until I drag a
cable down to the server room).
