[Elecraft] Pro II like scope on K2/100 with a PC?

Tim, I do almost exactly that by taking an IF signal out of the post-mixer
amp and feeding it into the Ant 1/R connector on the PRO2. By tuning the
PRO2 to the "right" IF frequency - it varies with mode and band, etc. - I
see the K2 output on the PRO2 Spectrum Scope plus having all the PRO2
"tools" that the K2 lacks. No computer required . . .
As Eric has pointed out this compromises the front-end performance of the K2
but it does buy you the Spectrum Scope as well as getting the K2 signal into
the IF DSP world..
I also have an IF tap from the amp following the AGC mixer. This is much
more narrow-banded since all the K2 IF filters are operating. The PRO2 is
tuned down around 154 KHz and really produces excellent performance, but too
narrow-banded for the Scope to operate. Again the frequency depends upon
band and mode. And I might add, it is not obvious what the correct settings
are - until you spend an hour or so figuring it out and trying various
things. <:}
So you can have your K2 and your Spectrum Scope , too, but the question is
"why?" Except in the shack, you are unlikely to have a computer handy to run
that special program that would have to be written. And you aren't llikely
to haul a PRO2 out into the field just to be a Spectrum Scope.
And in the shack where you have the K2 and the PRO2, I have found that the
PRO2 with its improved (greatly!) front end able to deal with any strong
signal situation that the K2 can handle.
So, my notion is to use the K2 for what it was designed for: an elegant
little station in one box with outstanding performance per cubic inch and
ounce. And to use the PRO2 in the shack, where it was intended to live, and
enjoy its capabilities, including the Scope.
Hope I haven't discouraged you too much from writing that program and
building what it would take to get the analog RF or IF signal out of the K2
into the computer for display of the signals.

PC to monitor freq etc the way the Pro II does? Would that not be cool?
