FW: [Elecraft] Aviation Headset Wiring

I can't remember for sure, and my headsets are in the plane, but one (I
believe it's the tip) is a push to talk. The ring would be the AF in that
case. Is there a PTT on the mike cord? That would close the PTT at the jack
to ground, and that could key the rig.

The AF should be "hot" if there is no PTT in the line, so VOX should work
fine. If there is a PTT, it may or may/not disable the AF when un-pushed.
Grab a meter or 'scope.

No, that can't be. The AF has to be hot. The PTT may be on the cord, the
yoke, or the panel, and the intercom needs AF even when the transmitter is
not keyed. You can ignore the extra circuit (to go VOX) or use it (if there
is a convenient PTT on the headset or cord).

Subject: [Elecraft] Aviation Headset Wiring

'Crafters,

I have an aviation headset that I thought might be worth looking into using
for the K2. It's VOX capable with a three conductor plug. For those who
don't know, aviation headsets have two plugs. One for the receive, the other
for transmit. The receive is not a problem. The transmit plug problem I have
is, "What goes to what?" Obviously one is ground (probably contact #3,
counting from the tip); one, I'm thinking, goes to the AF (though I don't
know which); but, how do I get the VOX to work (does it go to the PTT!?)

The jumpers are wired for the MH-2. I was planning on building an adapter to
screw into the K2's mic plug and have a 3/32 female for the headset.

Has anybody tried this? Am I barking up a dead tree?

Cheers,
Colin
