No. You simply run two cables out of the connector that plugs into the 
K2. One goes to the EC2/KPA/KAT (male plug) and the other is the RS-232 
interface (female). It looks like a "Y" cable, but in reality it isn't. 
The AUX bus and RS-232 use different pins in the K2 connector.

The KIO2 provides the AUX bus connection to the AMP and KAT in the 
external EC2. It is possible to set it up without the KIO2 in the K2, 
but it is far more convenient to have it.
