If it's of any use to other builders, here's my low-tech method for
affixing the ground wires to the crystals in the KX1. Lay the crystal on a
flat surface and push it into the edge of the black foam that the ICs were
shipped in. Compress the foam a little to make it the same height as the
crystal. This makes a stable base to hold and align the ground wire.Take a
scrap lead from a resistor and make a 90" bend about 1/8" inch from one end
and(after positioning it where it belongs), press it down into the foam,
placing the other end about 3/16"over the lower flange of the crystal, then
bend the end so it touches the body. Tack the wire to the crystal body and
then use a small screwdriver blade to hold it in place while making the
final solder joint and to secure it until it cools.YMMV.
