Hi Brad and others,

retro fitting a DDS is possible in the K1. Band switching is not a problem,
since the VFO always runs on the same frequency on all bands......
(see also the previous comments of Mike, KK5F)

Giuliano, I0CG, the "inventor" of the K1 SSB RX/TX board is using a DDS
VFO in his K1. He replaced the VFO potentiometer on the K1 front panel
with an optical encoder (same size as the original potentiometer)
for tuning his DDS VFO.

But:
I see no real need to fit a DDS into the K1 unless you want to use it
over a larger bandwith - such as together with I0CGs SSB board.

By the way, I have been a beta-tester of Giuliano's SSB board and it
really works pretty good. (still using a severely modified prototype
board here inside my K1)

Worked some rare stations with my K1 and 5 Watts in SSB during the
CQ WW DX Contest: C5Z, A61AJ, D44TD, VP5DX, KH0AA. (even managed to
do a one day QRP WAC in SSB on 26. Oct. with the K1). Antenna was
a 2 x 33ft doublette with balanced feedline.

I do not use a DDS here yet. I am running the original VFO at 250 kHz
bandwith....that makes tuing a bit more "challenging", hi, but I am
still able to tune the rig. (and K1 SSB TX audio is quite nice)
