I use the internal lithiums when moving around and an external 1.2 AH =
SLA when I can. I charge it on a current limited 13.8 V power supply.

Well, since you asked, it was noisier than the 12 VDC switcher from=20
JAMECO I had been using. May have been a defective unit, but back it =

I find that using my 10 cell AA NiMH pack, with two rotating sets of=20
cells, works fine for me. So I may just stay with that approach. I've=20
thought about building my own linear supply for overseas travel, but I=20
concluded that a homebuilt unit might excite some excitement at airport=20
security checks -- so that is unlikely.

I think that is a good price I keep a set in the rig and have a couple=20
of spares. But mostly I use the 10 cell pack above.
