This is the method I developed way back when I was going to school and
worked in an engineering prototype lab during the summer. No
construction manual, just a B sized schematic and a components mask,
and sometimes not the latter.
1. Five discreet components or two IC's at a time.
2. Smallest components first.
3. Choose the components to be placed so that they don't interfere
with each other when being soldered.
4. Double check that you placed the correct components in the correct
locations before and again after soldering.
5. Check the joint on both sides as you clip the lead. If you clip
all the leads first, you won't remember half (at least) the joints.
6. Don't hurry or work after you've tired. The four or five errors I
made on my K2 were because I was too anxious to get to where I could
play with it. One of those was a bugger to find and delayed play time
by two days.
