Well, since you asked, it was noisier than the 12 VDC switcher from
JAMECO I had been using. May have been a defective unit, but back it went.
I find that using my 10 cell AA NiMH pack, with two rotating sets of
cells, works fine for me. So I may just stay with that approach. I've
thought about building my own linear supply for overseas travel, but I
concluded that a homebuilt unit might excite some excitement at airport
security checks -- so that is unlikely.

I think that is a good price I keep a set in the rig and have a couple
of spares. But mostly I use the 10 cell pack above.
