Right Phil! A "top loaded vertical" can work very well indeed, =
particularly
on the lower bands where a lot of ops have trouble getting a horizontal
antenna up close to 1/2 wavelength high for best low-angle radiation.
Even though that may not have been what Windom had in mind when he =
designed
his single-wire feed system, that's exactly what a Windom becomes on any =
but
it's design frequency and they have a great track record with a mix of
vertical and horizontal radiation.
I use an inverted L on the lower bands, which is much the same sort of
antenna. It does a much better job for me than a low dipole.=20
