looks to be heat resistant."

The protective sheath on the Hakko 808 isn't intended to be used while it
is heating, the lack of air circulation would burn out the heating
element and the nylon "velcro" used to secure it would melt under high
heat...I believe that the sheath is for protection while the unit is in
storage...It allows you to put the gun away while it is still warm...BTW,
there is no reference to this sheath anywhere in the literature I got
with mine, not even a part number for it, but it is shown in the
picture...
