[Elecraft] KX-1: Awesome Fun

I have been toting around a "belly pack" stuffed with:
A small spool of nylon seine line (maybe 1/16" OD size)
A pill bottle with several 1 oz. bell shaped fishing sinkers
(sprayed florescent orange so you can see them!)
A Pomona "BNC to binding posts" adapter
Three 33' lengths of #24 gauge mil spec stranded hookup wire
each labelled with length and with a banana plug on one end.
Four 66' lengths of same hookup wire (for 80 meter operation)
Each assortment of "hanks" of wire in one pint Zip-loc bags
One Zip-loc bag with a couple of short pencils and a few sheets of paper folded.
Makes a dandy "Field antenna/counterpoise" bag!

What would REALLY be nice is one of those telescoping "hot sticks" the
power lineman use. The yellow ones that are light and around a foot long
collapsed and about 30' extended! Where do you get one like that?
I'll be they are "pricey"!

With the 4 band K1 you can dispense with the 66' lengths really! I find
one length for the antenna and at LEAST one for the counterpoise works
good, two for counterpoise works better!

| Steve,
| I strongly encourage you to try a try dipole for the band in use. You may
| have RF in the shack problems from the one you have tried.
|
| Or, if you must use a single wire, use 33 feet aerial, and a 36 foot
| insulated counterpoise wire laid along the baseboard or ground.
|
| Enjoy,
| Stuart
