[Elecraft] KX-1: Awesome Fun

Steve,
which way did you run the counterpoise, and did you use just one? The =
simulated results are much better if the counterpoise if run in the =
direction of the "antenna" wire. With them running in the same direction =
(the "antenna" wire sloping up) the horizontally polarized radiation is =
largely canceled. With them running in opposite directions both =
polarizations are present and the counterpoise acts as one-half of an =
asymmetric dipole laying on the ground- not a great situation.
BTW, I just received the 12 foot MFJ telescoping whip and will try is =
out this weekend with the KX1. It should tune well on 20 and a loading =
coil will get it playing on 40 and 30 meters. My big antenna issue with =
the KX1 is finding a suitable support for a wire antenna. If I can just =
push up the telescoping whip, toss out a counterpoise, and get on 20 =
meters I can get on the air from just about anywhere.

Oops! I transposed the numbers...it is 42', not 24! And that wire is
fantastic. I bought 200' just to play around with.
73 es TNX!
