I usually use the preamp on with my K2 when using Beverages and it works
very well.    For contests, it is nice to be able to switch from the main
antenna to the Beverage frequently and in those cases, I live without the
preamp.    Honestly, I don't use my K2 much in that situation as it is too
difficult to rapidly switch these antennas - I wish Wayne had enough code
space to make the Rx enable command a toggle instead of leaving you in the
menu - not a good thing for the heat of battle for a contest...   And if you
really wanted to do it right, the K2 would remember the preamp setting with
the Rx antenna so this would change automatically with selecting the Rx
antenna.   Maybe someday...
