I typically use a preamp with my receive antennas. With the AGC on I don't
seem to have the problem with strong signals blasting my ears. Maybe I'm
just used to it after all these years or maybe my ears are shot.  I find
receiving weak vs strong signals on the receive input on the K2 to act
similarly to other rigs.

I guess I should have specified a coax-fed Beverage with matching xfmr
instead of "straight into".  I'm asking if folks are using external preamps
on their low gain receive antennas, such as Beverages.  So far two
respondents have indicated in the affirmative.  Back-to-back diode
protection is a good idea Hank!
