[Elecraft] Balun loss

A balun at the feedpoint will stop RF from flowing onto the outside of =
the
coax from the open end of the feedline at the antenna, but it won't do a
thing to stop the induced RF currents produced by the near-field of the
antenna from flowing along the outside of the shield. Those currents =
appear
in all conductors near the antenna. The only way to stop them in a =
conductor
is to place it so the RF currents induced in it are exactly opposite and
equal to produce a net zero current. In a dipole that means running the
feedline away at exactly right angles.=20

The usual cure for the problem is to use a "choke" balun at the =
feedpoint of
the antenna.... =20
