Good Evening,
According to my propagation program (HFprop) with a sun spot number of 35 20
meters will be open to Missouri from approximately 1600 to 2400z. Then the maximum
usable frequency drops to below 14 MHz. If I point at Pittsburgh, PA I get an answer
of 1600 to approximately 2200z. If I split the difference and try running the net at
2300z I have to hope for a relay or two out there to get me to the East Coast.
Hopefully I will have some help in the heartland so I can work you folks out east. Last
week I tried running ECN at 2400z and the band was quite poor. It appears the band
will be even worse tomorrow but I am willing to try.
So we'll run from 2300z 3PM PST Sunday until I get tired of calling CQ ECN or I get a
decent number of folks checked in. Then we'll go free and you can call anyone you like.
I would encourage you to ask either me or whomever is acting as a relay station for a
contact with someone else. We'll move you off frequency to make a connection. That
will give some value added to this net. I am not promising anything because the bands
are not happy lately. I think Wayne needs to make another Elecraft kit: an ion
injection tool. When the bands are down and the ions are sloughing off we use our
handy dandy ion injectors (TM Elecraft) to get that ionosphere full and bouncy again.
You DXers may like injecting those ions in just the correct location so your signal gets
preferential treatment in a pileup. Wayne, are you listening?
ECN tomorrow 2300z (3PM PST Sunday) 14050 kHz or up if QRM.
Hope to hear you then,
Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Op 5th Class).
