Hi Dave,
The K2 CW keying bandwidth is as clean or cleaner out of the box than most HF
rigs on the market, including the popular FT1000MP-V. Most commercial ham rigs
ship with cw keying bandwidths between 1 kHz and 2.5 kHz. These keying (click)
artifacts are usually only discernible when you are -very- strong at the
receiving stations location, and if they tune off your frequency a kHz or so.
That said, a some contesters have been looking at narrowing the CW keying
bandwidth on a number of rigs, including the MP and K2. I believe there is a
mod for the MP, but it has not been incorporated by the manufacturer..
Along those lines we have also looked at it and found a simple way to modify
the K2's CW rise/fall times (which are already pretty good) to reduce the
keying bandwidth to much less than a kHz.
We are in final field test of this mod now and will be posting it shortly. I
can't say if or when it will become part of the K2 kit, since some operators
prefer the current K2 keying waveform at high CW speeds, but we will make a
low cost mod kit available for those that want it in the next couple of weeks.
