I think this is what is happening:

Power output is controlled by a bias voltage to the PA transistors.
As the transistors heat up, the bias current starts to go up, and so
does the power output.

The K2 is smart enough to figure out a new bias voltage to correct
for this.  But the K2 can not know how long you will transmit, so the K2
can not get the exact voltage needed.

The K2 will not change the bias as long as tune mode is on.  That would
cause confusion when you are tuning.  You will see a change due to =
heating.

I don't leave tune on for very long.
