[Elecraft] KSB2 Debug Question

Greetings, all.  I just completed my KSB2 kit for my K2.  I plugged it in, and got the dreaded -- when viewing the SSBA & SSBC menus.  Apparently that means that my CPU on the KSB2 isn't talking to the main CPU.  The KSB2 instructions said to verify that U1 was installed correctly (it was, and I reseated it for fun), and to verify that R12 was installed (it also was).  I verified that all components with polarities are installed properly, and, that there are no solder bridges (that I can see, anyway).  I followed the RF board mods carefully before plugging the KSB2 in (removing R167, W2, and W3).
 
One thing I noticed that was odd was that my U1 on the KSB2 is a 16F872, rather than the 16C72/16C72A listed in the parts list.  I assume this is not an error?
 
Any thoughts on what to look at next?
