I think that this would be better than topping off but I know that opinions
vary on this.  What I was actually speaking to were those who leave their
internal battteries disconnected for long periods of time hoping to prolong
their life by avoiding accidental overcharge or deep cycling.  For these
operators, float charging is not a viable option for one reason or another.
I merely wanted to caution them that "proper care and feeding" requires that
they keep an eye on the self discharge voltage and top them off from time to
time to prevent life reduction.
