Vic,
If I've got this right, all you need is a "wireless access point"
supporting the widely available 802.11b standard. Examples include:
Linksys WAP11 or D-Link DWL-700AP. There are also models that combine
access point with router and hub. Hook up the selected AP to your
existing network and install a wireless 802.11b card in your shack PC.
Configure "WEP" (which provides a measure of encrypted security, but far
from bullet proof). When naming your AP (the so called SSID), choose a
non-descriptive name that can't be linked to you (i.e. don't use your call
sign, or something like "Vic's House"). Finally, when all is working,
turn off the broadcast of the SSID in the AP so others can't "find" your
AP by listening to the periodic broadcasts.

All the stuff you need is at your local CompUSA, Best Buy, Fry's, etc.

GL,
Steve
