[Elecraft] KX1 audio output level

While we generally encourage experimentation, I would recommend that the average
builder *not* make any changes to the KX1's audio amplifier circuitry. Any
change could have unintended side effects, such as AF instability,
transmit/receive artifacts, higher current drain, increased DC offset at the
output of the amp, etc.

The present circuit was carefully optimized. It's ideal for use with sensitive
headphones (earbuds, etc.), is quite stable, and draws very little current. All
of these characteristics are compatible with a rig optimized for backpacking and
emergency use. If you have low audio even when using the recommended 'phones,
chances are there's an assembly or alignment problem.

Of course if you want an absolute gauge of any receiver's sensitivity and
overall gain, you can use our new XG1. The XG1's 1-microvolt signal injected
into my lab-test KX1 resulted in about 80 mVrms measured at the headphone jack
(using a DMM's AC volts scale). Typical data for the K1 and K2 is included in
the XG1 manual.
