[Elecraft] More on N6KR method for setting the reference

Ron, I went upstairs and tried my ceramic tool on C22 on the control board .
. . and it works flawlessly. The reason I can do this easily, is I've got
the control board & front panel board built but am waiting on a missing part
(female connector for the RF board) before I can go any farther. I've used
this ceramic tool on all kinds of alignment: 3 TenTec kits, various benchtop
DMM alignments . . . its' never chipped or had a problem. My guess is maybe
they are making ceramic better these days. That being said, I better order
another one because now that I've sung it's praises, it'll probably crack
the next time I use it!

Is the current crop of ceramic tools able to stand use with tight trimmers
like C22 Rick?

I've got a handful of ceramic tuning tools. Mine are great but BRITTLE! The
chisel point tools for turning slugs are FB. But the blade-end types for
twisting ceramic trimmers chip very easily when encountering a tight cap
like C22.

Mine are 20+ years old. E.F. Johnson Company used to supply them for tuning
up their 900 MHz land mobile repeaters. I wonder if they've gotten stronger
ceramic over the years.

One of the handiest little tools I've come up with for setting various caps
is a CERAMIC alignment tool from Milestone Technologies (www.morsex.com)
I've just got the one, MX-PK034D $3.50 but Marshall now has a set of them,
MX-PK0355 $17.95
They're non-inductive, non-magnetic, thermally and electrically insulated,
and anti-static. Best of all, the one I have works great!
