I don't notice this effect on my early (almost three-year-old) K1
with its original VFO pot.  Maybe Elecraft changed the part sometime
after my K1 number 175.  But I wonder if perhaps your VFO pot was
defective.

Regardless, metal shaft Mouser pots have received multiple endorsements
on this list over the years for being quieter, or having less shaft
wobble, or for being more resistant to popping the back off due to
pressure on the VFO knob.  I just haven't had any of these problems
to warrant replacement.  I'll probably eventually order the Mouser
pot for installation on that future day when the original pot begins
to get scratchy.
