[Elecraft] Recycling a KAF2 ??

Hi all,
I will probably be shot for suggesting this, but having now
installed a KDSP2 I set about thinking about how I could use the KAF2 if no
other K2 owner here in ZL wanted it.
How about making a "stand alone" filter for my K1 ?
By looking at the circuit I guess I could make up a pad for the input so I
could plug it straight into the headphone jack of the K1 and drop the level
somewhat. If I removed the controller chip and removed D1 feeding the clock
chip the rest of the filter wouldn't draw much.
Remove the FET's Q1, 2 and 3 and use a rotary switch to apply each stage
consecutively to the low pass filter as required, and use a LM380
for the audio output driving a small speaker.
Alternately, the FET's could be biased on with the same rotary switch so
removal wouldn't be nescessary.
A small PC board could be knocked up to cater for the audio chip and also
carry a couple of connectors to plug the KAF2 into.
Basically the KAF2 would be undamaged, and easily restored to duty in a K2
if required.
There are probably reasons why this wouldn't work, and if there are I
wouldn't mind hearing them.......What do you reckon??
Cheers....Ron ZL1TW
