[Elecraft] Thinking of activities for Alaska QRP Club - Alaska Fox Hunt

Greetings from Alaska,

I have been thinking of running a one time (at least to start) Alaska Fox Hunt
on 20 meters. The plan is to enlist AK QRP Club members to operate a given 2
hour period with from one up to five or more Foxes spread from .050 to .065.
We would use the same format of RST, S/P/C, power out. I have some ideas for
awards for the top couple of contestants. Nothing major, but something fun
and nice.

A question. Is it legal to run a 2-3 watt beacon, fully attended, on 20
meters say about 14.064 for up to four hours at a time? I am trying to nail
down the best time from east to west coast on average to run this fox thingy.
Perfection may be impossible but we must try. :-)

The Alaska QRP Club meeting is this Friday and I plan to bring up this idea.
I hope there are a few takers and suspect there will be. I know my Elecraft
K2 is itching to work a few more stations and I know KL7IKV, Lynn, has his K2
up and running with DSP, AL7OK has a K1, and others have varying QRP
capabilities from Century 22s to turned down QRO rigs to 817s. Of course we
Alaskan would precoordinate the frequencies. We might even try to get a
Juneau QRP operator to hedge our bets on propagation. There is a QRPer on
Kodiak Island (quiet spot) and down on the Kenai Peninsula.

Shall we try it?

Because of my love for my K2, I post to the Elecraft list but Elecraft
responses would be better served if done on the QRP-L list or direct.

Thank you.

73, Jim
