On verticals, look for the Bill Orr and Stu Cowan handbooks on verticals,
or Orr's HF Antenna Handbook, his last one.  CQ Publishing Co.   I think
they also have the rights to Capt. Lee's Vertical Antenna book, well worth
owning.  A lot of good antenna information is in ON4UN's book on Low Band
DXing, (John Delvodere).

Interesting info on verticals is on the Force 12 Antenna web pages.   Their
Sigma 5 series which I have used on field ops works very well, and is only
12 feet tall.  A similar coil loaded vertical dipole could be fabricated by
any home shop.   They simply coil load each half element at center, and use
relay switching to select the appropriate band coil.  The coax center feed
and relay control wires, are bead decoupled for preventing RF on the lines
to the shack.
