Earth is farthest from the sun in July and closest in January.  Lee is
correct only if his reference to summer is for the southern hemisphere.

What others are calling "poor condx", I have always called "the summer
doldrums". Condx are indeed punk, but the path to Europe from the left
coast through the difficult auroral zone has been open almost every
evening on 20-meters, just as it has been for the 43 summers that I've
been a ham.
