Don't feel bad, Lee.  I was curious, so I called my local High School. 
Not many staff there, but some summer classes going on. After shuffling 
through a couple "Assistant Principals," (bureaucracy is as bad in the 
schools as elsewhere), I finally got a "science instrutor." I asked him 
"Why is it warmer in Summer?"  The response?  "Well, you know, the earth 
is closer to the sun......, you know?"  (I think he was also the 
basketball coach   ;-).


Just for curiousity, I called the local "Christian School." Hardly any 
staff there, but I got to speak to a counselor. I asked, "Do you teach 
why it is warmer in summer than winter?"  "Of course we do. As with 
everything, it is God's plan......"

Yep, I'll agree with one thing. May God help us all.....
