The chips you described are not only for lowpower. You can take the signal
off them into a bank of power transistors and get all the current you want
provided the rest of the components will handle the load.
My favorite regulator chip is the LM723. Easy to use and low parts count.
Circuits using this chip are in the Amateur radio handbook. If you don't
have a handbook, I would suggest investing in one. Most libraries carry a
copy. May not be the most recent but there is alot of valuable info in
there.

You didn't mention if you're using the QRP or QRO version of the K2.
A word of caution on building any powersupply. Make sure it's well
regulated and built to provide more than the required current. Alot of
damage to the supply and you rig will result if your design is sloppy.
