Hi John, et al.:

You'll have to let us know how your Samlex goes. I've heard that the
Samlex has lots of noise around 80 meters, but then I've heard it's
absolutely fantastic. Conversely, I've heard the MFJ supplies are RF
quiet but have a hideously noisy fan. Anyone wanna comment?

We used two Samlex 1223's at the VC2C CQ WW SSB operation from Zone 2
last year. Both of them are about 13.83 VDC out. With one of
them, when the power supply is on, and the radio is off, I drove the 160
ops wild trying to find the birdies on their band! When I turned
the radio (a K2/100 in this case) the birdies went away. Swapped
the 1223 on the K2 with the one on an IC-746 and the problem followed the
power supply.

We (AC8W and I) have about 4 of them. and I think one of mine is the only
one that causes this problem. Other than that, I feel they are a
good 100 dollar (new) or less used power supply for travelling .... if
you can find one used!

It's not a 30 or 40 pound Astron ..... But the KAT100 sits on top of it
and the K2/100 sits on top of that, and the Palm paddle's magnets stick
to the side of the power supply - very compact and fits in a carry on
suitcase along with a Gusher antenna!
