Larry,
Although I've never made the kinds of measurements you've made, to my
ear, the K2's keyer timing has always been 'heavy', and I was never
completely satisfied with the timing. To be fair though, I also use the
Logikey K3 keyer, as do you, and IMHO, it's the best-sounding keyer I've
ever used. I also have an Icom 764PRO, and same story - I still prefer
the K3. (Of course, the poor Icom no longer gets used for cw anymore...
:-) )
I can certainly work with the K2's keyer, and it's good enough that if I
was going to run it in a portable mode, I wouldn't bring the K3 along.
No question, as you noted, the K2's micro is a whole lot busier than
Logikey's dedicated micro, so I think the variations are understandable.
But, the Logikey K3 has spoiled me, and I suspect you as well!
