[Elecraft] I know what's going to be offered in Dayton!

Kewel!

Some questions:

1. Is this a mod to the basic KAT100-1/2 or is this is a "KAT100-3"
(different case, et.al)?

2. How does it stack up against the SGC or LDG product? Can you twitch
the input/output capacitance or inductance from the rig?

3. How about carrying the control sigs along with the voltage (like the
way digital train control systems do -- http://www.digitrax.com)?

4. How about a balanced-balanced transmatch? :)

5. If I go to Dayton and I hurdle over the h-t carrying and backpacking
throngs, will I be able to take one home with me?

After having talked to Wayne two Dayton Hamventions in a row about what
I'd like
he and Eric to design, I believe they have done it! Of what utility are the
KAT100 or
the KAT2 wide-range antenna tuners if they are not able to be remotely
mounted?
Who wants to routinely tune an 8:1 SWR on 10 meters through 100 feet of coax?
It makes much more
sense to put the tuner where the *antenna* is, rather than at the end of a
lossy system.
For those of us who use a portable, fixed-length, trapless vertical
outside our
cabin, or those
who use the back stay on their boat, or those mobile ops who use a 17 meter
Hamstick
on three bands, it makes ultimate sense to put the tuner at the antenna,
not in the radio! The tuner belongs at the base of that vertical, on the
back
stay, or in the
trunk of the car!

So the new offering will be a two-part kit. One is the KAT100 in a
waterproof
enclosure
with it's own battery supply. The other is an outlet on the back of the K2 to
use the auxbus
line to drive the now true *antenna* tuner remotely through a coax control
line.

Now we will all be happy with the 50 ohm output of our radios traveling
down a
50 ohm
transmission line and interfacing with a 50 ohm load. The tuner will now be
able to do
its fantastic stuff without needless feedline loss.

With great hope!
