Believe it or not, it *does* work, using the K2's normal down-conversion scheme.
In fact I have the K60XV prototyped--my K2 already runs on 60 meters, and the
hooks are in place in the revision B K2. (Too bad the FCC hasn't made it
official yet for U.S. hams.)
Performance is similar to other bands on the K2, as long as you stay within the
60 m ham band (proposed: 5.2-5.45, or thereabouts). A few hardy pioneers in the
U.K. even made our recommended mods to put their K2 on 60 meters. It's a kludge
without the K60XV itself, but it proves the concept.
The reason it works well is because the injection oscillator (the synth) is
above the RF band, putting the images way out of reach of the band-pass filter.
Time to get the FCC moving on this!
