[Elecraft] Newbie needs frequency counter advice, please...

Elecrafters,

Thanks to the several helpful people who replied to my query regarding a new
ham's need for a frequency counter. I will hold off on buying a new counter
for the time being. It appears that proper use of WWV's transmissions is a
sufficiently accurate means of performing frequency calibration on the 30m
band. Then, after zero beating the K1 with the 10 MHz WWV signal, even a
modest frequency counter might be useful for quickly checking the other
three bands of the K1, assuming that a counter adjusted to read 10.0000 MHz
will still be reasonably accurate for a minute or so while checking 7.1000,
14.1000 and 21.1000 MHz transmissions. To that end, I repaired an old Heath
IB-1100 counter that I had built years ago, and have successfuly used it to
check my K1's other bands, after first adjusting it to show the correct
frequency of my K1 on 30m.

I do have another question about accurate frequency display, insofar as I
need to assure myself of remaining safely within my permitted band edges
when transmitting, but I will post this as a separate topic.

Thanks again to all who replied.
