[Elecraft] K1; VFO Pot prob

Original VFO pot on my K1 was destroyed when knob hit/pushed/?, when 
letting radio club members check it out, and punchedout the back of pot.  I 
replaced it and no problems until find today that even the slightest 
pressure when turning VFO will push the pot back out - the replacement 
Bourns pot can be put back together with click [small plastic tab slides 
over the housing].  Tried getting the VFO knob on the pot shaft and flush 
against front of K1 front panel.  Not able to get it flush; still some play.

Suggestions from others' experiences?  Thanks in advance.
